An officer from the Yorktown Police Department on routine patrol shortly after 2:15 a.m. on Thursday morning stopped Putnam Valley resident Kayla Muniz on Foothill Street, when she was spotted swerving on the road.
During the subsequent traffic stop, police said that it was determined that Muniz, 24, was allegedly intoxicated and there was an open container of alcohol inside her vehicle. It is further alleged that she was driving with a suspended license and a blood alcohol content greater than .18 percent, more than double the legal limit.
Muniz was arrested at the scene and charged with driving while intoxicated, aggravated driving while intoxicated with a BAC greater than .18 percent, and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
She was also cited for having an open container and driving on the shoulder, traffic infractions.
Following her arraignment, Muniz was released on $100 cash bail to a sober third party. She is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Nov. 15 to respond to the charges.
